monday vibe: best practices, features, and capabilities

Guide for best results

monday vibe allows you to build, customize, and share apps using natural language. Whether you're creating a dashboard, designing workflows, or building internal tools, how you prompt and iterate directly affects your results.

This guide covers best practices to help you structure prompts, refine your apps, and use key features to work more efficiently inside monday.com.

Structure your first prompt

For best results, include the following elements in your first prompt:

  • What you are building (for example, a sales dashboard)
  • Who it is for (for example, a sales rep)
  • Tasks it should perform (for example, log deals)
  • How it should look and feel (for example, dark mode)

Start your app from a CSV or Excel file

Instead of describing your data in a prompt, you can upload a CSV, XLSX, or XLS file when building or editing your app. vibe uses the file to build your app's structure: each row becomes an item, and each column becomes a field.

Column types are inferred automatically from your file. Supported types are:

If a column's type can't be determined, it defaults to Text.

Importing a file always creates a new board with your data. You can use this at any point while building or editing your app, not only when you first create it.

Detail Info
Supported formats CSV, XLSX, XLS
Row limit 5,000 rows per file
File size limit No separate limit; only the row cap applies
Encoding No specific encoding required or validated

Note: If your file has more than 5,000 rows, you'll be notified and can choose to continue. Only the first 5,000 rows will be imported; the rest will be truncated.

Example use cases
  • Migrate from a spreadsheet without configuring a single column
  • Start a new app straight from a data file instead of describing it in a prompt

Edit and customize your vibe app

You can continue refining your app directly from the chat. Simply describe the changes you want to make.

Examples include:

  • Add filters
  • Make it responsive
  • Switch to dark mode
  • Add a chart
  • Create hover effects

Tip: Start with a simple version of your app and iterate gradually. You can always refine details later with additional prompts.

Manually update before publishing

You can safely edit your app in draft mode without affecting the live version. After publishing, disable Auto Update to keep new changes in draft.

The live version will remain unchanged until you click on Update changes. To remove unwanted edits, ask the chat to "undo this".download (75).gif

Connecting a board to an existing app

If you have already created an app and want to connect an additional board, open your Vibe app in the editor and tap Boards. Then either click on + Connect new board or type the following into the chat:  "I want to connect a new board and add its data to my app dashboard."

The new board's data will then be automatically added and will be available to build with immediately, no rebuild needed.

You can use this option to combine workflows from separate boards into a single, unified app with cross-board dashboards, shared activity tracking, and a full view across the business.

Please note that you can connect up to twenty boards at a time.

Upload images and files to the prompt chat box

You can upload files or use a web page URL under Theme to provide visual context instead of describing requirements in text.

Supported formats include PNG, JPEG, JPG, WEBP, PDFs, and text files. These files are used as prompt context and are not embedded in your app.

Example use cases
  • Upload a product image and recreate it inside your app
  • Turn a sketch into a polished interface
  • Recreate designs from Figma exports
  • Fix UI issues using screenshots
  • Apply branding using a company logo

Note: Please ensure you have the rights to any files you upload and that your content complies with the monday.com Acceptable Use Policy. To use an image or video you share in the chat directly as an asset inside your app, see Use images from the chat as app assets below.

Use images from the chat as app assets

Attention: This capability is currently available on monday.monday accounts only, as part of a gradual release. Availability will expand to more accounts over time.

When you share an image, gif, video, or PDF in the vibe chat while building or editing your app, vibe can recognize it as a usable asset and surface it for use inside the app you're creating. Your conversation becomes a source of app content: share an image in the chat, then bring it directly into your app's design.

Supported asset types and limits:

Asset type Supported formats Size limit
Image PNG, JPEG, GIF, WEBP, AVIF, HEIC, SVG 3.5 MB
Video MP4, WEBM, QuickTime (.mov), OGG 50 MB
PDF PDF [TBD]

You can share up to 5 files in a single prompt.

Email integration

You can prompt vibe to send emails, organize incoming messages, and turn conversations into actions.

  • vibe detects when an integration is required
  • You will be prompted to connect Gmail or Outlook
  • Authentication is completed inside monday.com
  • Once connected, vibe continues building the logic

Send formatted emails with HTML and attachments

You can format email content using HTML and send branded messages directly from your app.

To attach files, use files stored in a Files column. The maximum file size is 5 MB.

Export vibe app screen as PDF

You can export your app as a PDF to create reports, dashboards, or shareable documents. Please note that this is not a default feature but needs to be added to your app while you are building it.

First, you need to ask Vibe to include an "Export as PDF" button in the app. Once created, click on Export as PDF, choose your settings, and click Export.

Use a vibe app as your homepage

Admins can set a published vibe app as the account homepage to create a more personalized starting experience.

Go to the Administration section, open the General tab, select Account, and choose a vibe app under Account home page.

Here is what the monday platform's home page looks like by default:

This is what it looks like after changing the home page to a Vibe app:

Share and open a vibe app in full screen

You can open your app in full screen and share it using a link. Click the dropdown next to Publish and select Copy vibe link.

Anyone with access to your account can open the app, based on board permissions.
