A downgrade is any change to your plan that reduces its scope. This can include reducing the number of seats or moving to a lower plan tier (for example, from Pro to Standard).
Should I change seats or downgrade my plan?
There are two types of downgrades you can make on monday.com: reducing paid seats (which lowers how many seats you’re billed for) or downgrading your plan tier (for example, from Pro to Standard).
Both changes are scheduled for your next renewal date. To lower your paid seat count, your account must already have the same number of active seats or fewer than the new seat total before the change can be scheduled.
How do I reduce seats or downgrade my plan?
Downgrades cannot take effect immediately.
Steps: Open Billing in the admin section
- Open the Administration section of your account.
- Select Billing in the left-hand menu.
In the Overview tab, find the product you want to downgrade, and then click the three-dot menu next to it.

When does a downgrade take effect?
All downgrades take effect at your plan renewal. For monthly plans, the change applies at your next monthly renewal date. For yearly plans, it applies at your next yearly renewal date.

What happens if you exceed your user limit before renewal?
If you schedule a downgrade and then exceed the seat limit of your upcoming plan before the renewal date, your account will remain on the current plan until renewal. If the overage continues, you’ll receive three notification emails. After five days, your account will be automatically upgraded to the next seat bucket that covers the number of seats in use.
