Timeline summary
The AI Timeline Summary simplifies the research process that many sales reps and managers have to take to gain a complete understanding of their team's history with a client. It creates a short, clear summary of all communication events, such as emails, calls, meetings, and notes. This helps sales and support teams save valuable time.

Autofill a column with AI
Compatible columns
You can apply AI capabilities to columns on any monday CRM board. You can use AI with these columns:
- Text column
- Date column
- Number column
- Dropdown column
- People column
- and Status column
To apply AI capabilities to a column using the Autofill option, click on the three-dot menu to the right of the column header. From the menu, select Autofill with AI:
Choose an action
On monday CRM, AI actions are the key to using the power of AI in your columns. Once you click Autofill with AI, you'll be able to choose an AI action:
The options for AI actions are:
- Detect sentiment
- Extract information ⭐️
- Improve text
- Summarize
- Translate
- Writing assistant ⭐️
- Custom action ⭐️
- Assign label ⭐️
- Assign person ⭐️
Customize your action
Once you've selected an action, you can fill in the rest of the details in order to preview your results before saving the column preferences:
When you're satisfied with the preview results, click Save, and your AI-powered column will be ready to use. Your chosen action will apply to all existing items and any new items you add to your board.
The rest of this article will outline the AI actions available to use on monday CRM. Not all columns are compatible with all actions. These are the AI actions available for each column:
- Text column - Detect sentiment, Extract info, Improve text, Summarize, Translate, Writing assistant, and Custom action
- Date column - Custom action
- Numbers column - Custom action
- Dropdown column - Assign label
- Status column - Assign label
- People column - Assign person
Detect sentiment
Detect sentiment will determine whether the text input can be categorized as Positive, Negative, or Neutral.
Extract information
Extract Info with AI automatically extracts and organizes key information from files like invoices, resumes, or contracts. Information can also be extracted from text columns, monday docs in the Files column (not the docs column), and images.
Specific details (like names, invoice numbers, text extracted from images, etc.) will appear directly in your monday board columns, eliminating the need for manual input and saving critical time.
Improve text
The Improve text AI action will automatically generate an improved version of the text that has been provided.
There are several advanced options for adjusting the generated text:
- refinement level
- text length
- tone of voice
Summarize
The Summarize AI action will automatically summarize text input into a much shorter piece of text that is faster to read and scan.
Translate
The Translate AI action will automatically translate your chosen text into whichever language you need from the wide variety available in the dropdown menu.
Writing assistant
With the writing assistant option, you can provide a simple prompt that will guide AI to write the perfect text for your Text column.
Select Writing assistant in the dropdown menu and then write a prompt. Choose the tone and length, and preview the generated text on the right:
Custom action
Custom action allows you to give instructions to AI. In your instructions, you can reference any column on your board for input. AI will then generate output, per your specifications, into the selected column:
For best results:
- use clear instructions, leaving no room for misunderstanding
- make sure to choose the most relevant columns for the task
- experiment with different prompts on a small scale before applying them to your entire board
Assign label
When using the Assign label action with a Status Column or Dropdown Column, choose a source of text for AI to analyze. Then, choose the labels that AI can assign. If needed, add additional instructions.
Assign person
When using AI with a People Column, you can use the Assign person action. Choose a source to base assignments on. In this case, I chose Emails & Activities. Then, choose teammates that AI is allowed to assign. Define each teammate's role or key skills. This will help AI accurately assign the best teammate for the job.
Deactivate AI columns
To deactivate AI capabilities on any column, first click on the three-dot menu to the right of the column name. Then, hover over Autofill with AI in the dropdown menu. Click Deactivate AI to remove AI functionality from the column:
Troubleshooting
No result
If AI has failed to find a result, you will see the words "No result" in your column:
If your column is showing "No result" and you want to understand why, you can check the Run history.
Run history
Click Automate on the top right of your board. At the top of the Automation Center, click Run history on the right.
In the Run history, click on any run to expand the selection and review the details. You will see a summary of the AI actions taken and the logic behind the results:
In this example, the run history explains that the run failed and that "more informative instructions" are needed.
