What can we help you with?

monday Docs on file

We all love using monday workdocs as a collaborative tool for project management. Incorporating workdocs into the Files Column can help you keep your Docs centered in one, easy-to-use space on your board! Read on to see the exciting improvements we've made to Docs on file! 🎉

How do I use workdocs in the Files Column?

Click within the Files Column cell you'd like to use and select "Doc" from the dropdown menu:

Choose either "Connect existing Doc," "New Doc," or "Doc Templates." Read on for more information into each of these options! 😊

Tip: Deleted docs can be restored from the trash tab. You will only see docs in the trash that you have permission to access and restore.

How do I create a new Doc?

Press "New Doc" in the lower left corner of the dropdown menu:

Note: If you are unable to create a doc, there may be permissions enabled by an account admin.

A new Doc will immediately be created. The new Doc will have the board, item, and Files Column name so you can easily see at a glance what it corresponds to! Additionally, you can change the name of the Doc to a more suitable title based on your preferences!

Note: You won't find newly created workdocs within the Files Column in your workspace where your other workdocs, boards, and Dashboards are stored. Any workdoc that is newly created in the Files Column will be exclusively located within the individual board it was created in.

How do I connect an existing Doc from my workspace?

Now it's easier than ever to connect workdocs already found in your workspace to your Files Column. Choose any workdoc you are subscribed to in the list under "Connect existing Doc":

Note: Any edits made in a connected Doc within the Files Column will be reflected in the original workdoc.

How do I use a Doc Template?

There's no need to create an entirely new Doc every time you wish to add one to your Files Column! We make it easy for you to choose a Doc template that you already have saved to your Template center! Click on "Doc Templates" in the lower right hand corner of the dropdown menu and you will be redirected to your Doc Template center.

Note: Currently, you are only able to choose Doc templates you have individually created and saved in your Template center. Click here for more information on how to do this. 😊

What are the differences between workdocs and Docs on file?

There are some key differences between workdocs and Docs on file that are important to keep in mind. These include the following:

  • The ability to save a Doc as a template is not available in Docs on file
  • Account guests cannot create Docs on file
  • Sharing Docs on file is only allowed based on the permissions of the respective Doc
  • Any new Doc on file inherits the respective board, item, and column permissions

If you have any questions, please reach out to our team right here. We’re available 24/7 and happy to help.
