How to duplicate a board

When it comes to duplicating a board, you have three options:

  • Duplicate only the structure of the board.
  • Duplicate the board's structure and content.
  • Duplicate the structure, content, and updates written in any of the board's items.

Note: When duplicating a board any set Column Permissions will also be duplicated.

To access the duplication menu:

1Click on the three-dot menu at the top right of your board.

2Click on More actions.

3Click on Duplicate board.

4Select Structure, items & updates.

Duplicate the structure

If you choose the first option, "Structure only", only the skeleton of the board (the group names, column types and names, etc.) will be duplicated. This will not include the items or column data within the board.

To duplicate only the structure of the board, click into the board menu, "More actions" and then "Duplicate board". Then, from resulting screen, select "Structure only".

Note: You must be a member of the Workspace which the board belongs to in order to duplicate it.

Duplicate the structure and items

The second option, "Structure & items", will duplicate the skeleton of the board along with the board's items and column details.

To duplicate the structure and items of a board, click into the board menu, "More actions" and then "Duplicate board". Then, from resulting screen, select "Structure & items" as so:

All automation or integration recipes that are turned on will also be duplicated. However, when duplicating a board with custom automations using integration blocks, the automations will not carry over to the newly duplicated board. They must be recreated on the duplicate board.

Note: Connect Boards and Mirror Column settings are not carried over to your duplicated board. You will need to reconfigure these columns on your duplicated board.

Duplicate items and updates

The final option, "Structure, items & updates", will duplicate the skeleton of the board along with the board's items and column details, and any updates written within the board.

To duplicate your board using this method, click into the board menu, "More actions" and then "Duplicate board". Then, from resulting screen, select "Structure, items & updates" as so:

This functionality allows you to duplicate the content of your board with all the updates and files. Keep in mind a few points to take into account:

  • Ownership

When you duplicate a board you become the owner of that duplicated board, regardless of whom the original board owner is. Therefore, when it comes to the Updates section, you will have editing power over the updates, allowing you to both edit and delete updates and replies.

Note: If you edit an update originally posted by another user, the update will change ownership to you and will appear as an update that you have sent.

  • The entire post will be copied

This means that the update will be copied with its assets and the replies. If your update includes a checklist, your checklist will also be copied. Your checklist will be duplicated exactly as it is on the original post. This means that if one item is marked as done, it will be marked as done in the duplicate.

  • Limitation

The latest 100 posts of each item will be duplicated.
