With the monday campaigns editor, you can design a campaign from scratch. The editor has every customization option you need, from HEX color coding and merge tags to font customization, standard content blocks, and accessibility options like Alt text. Here's how to get started.

Opening the editor

When you click + Create campaign on the campaigns home, you'll see the Create campaign window with two ways to start:

  • Type a prompt for AI to generate the campaign (currently in Beta) — describe the campaign in plain language and AI builds the first draft. See AI generated campaigns.
  • Create from scratch — opens the editor with a blank email ready to design.

This article walks through the second path: building a campaign in the editor by hand. The editor itself is also where AI-generated campaigns open, so the editor walkthrough applies to both.

Getting to know the editor

The editor has three main areas:

  • Top header: the campaign title and status, a Content / Settings toggle in the center to switch between editing the email and configuring the campaign (subject, audience, sender, send time, UTM tracking), and the action buttons on the right: Send test mail (which also includes Preview and View in browser) and Review and launch.
  • Center area: the email canvas when you're in Content view, or the campaign configuration form when you're in Settings view.
  • Right panel: switches between four tabs via the icon bar: Sidekick (the AI assistant), Content (block picker), Rows (layout picker), and Settings (email-wide design — font, colors, width). The right-panel icon bar also has shortcuts at the bottom for Change template and Save as template.
Note: The right panel includes Sidekick, the in-editor AI assistant. Sidekick can write copy, generate images, change subject lines, switch the audience, and more. See Sidekick: your AI campaign assistant.

Editor header and campaign type

The Content / Settings toggle in the header lets you switch between editing the email design and configuring campaign-level settings such as the subject line, audience, sender, send time, and UTM tracking.

On the right side of the header, you'll find the Send test mail menu, which includes Preview email and View in browser, and the primary Review and launch button. If the campaign is workflow-driven, this button displays as Review and Activate instead.

If your account still shows the legacy editor option, there is a kebab menu on the right with two items:

  • Switch to old version: drops back to the previous editor.
  • Send in workflow / Send as one-time email: switches the campaign type without losing the current design. Only the send mechanism changes; your design, content, sender, and subject are preserved.

Starting from a template

A new campaign opens with a blank canvas. To start from one of monday's pre-built templates or one your team has saved, click the Change template icon at the bottom of the right-panel icon bar.

The Template gallery opens with three sections: Create from scratch, Created by monday, and Created by your team.

Loading a different template overwrites the current canvas. You will see a confirmation before anything changes.

Email footer

In the canvas, you will see the predefined footer of your email. This is locked, meaning it cannot be changed. The information in the footer includes:

  • Your company's address
  • An unsubscribe link
Note: These options are mandatory and must be included to comply with anti-spam laws. To adjust your company's address, reach out to your account's admin. They can change the company's address in the monday campaigns global settings.

Footer customization

Admins can enable footer customization for the unsubscribe link in Settings > Unsubscribe Settings.

Once enabled, you can edit the footer to match your brand.

For full details on managing unsubscribe settings, see Manage unsubscribes and subscription settings in monday campaigns.

Warning: Allowing you to remove the unsubscribe footer may result in non-compliant emails. Your organization is responsible for ensuring that all sent campaigns comply with applicable email regulations.

Content tab

The Content tab is in the right panel. From here, drag content blocks onto the canvas, then click into a block to edit it.

Each block type has its own configuration when selected. The current set of blocks supports:

  • Rich text with merge tags for personalization
  • Buttons that open URLs, draft reply emails, initiate phone calls, or send SMS messages
  • Images with Alt text and click actions
  • Lists, dividers, and spacers
  • Social network links (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn)
  • Embedded videos (YouTube or Vimeo)
  • HTML blocks
  • Your brand kit logo via the icon block
Note: When adding an image to an email in campaigns, it is best to use JPG or PNG rather than SVG, as SVGs may not load properly across different inbox clients, such as Gmail.

Move, duplicate, or delete a block

Hover over any block to access its controls. Use the handle in the top left corner to drag the block to a new position. Use the trash can icon to delete the block or the document icon to duplicate it.

Rows tab

Use the Rows tab in the right panel to adjust the layout structure of your email. Three categories are available:

  • Default rows — mini-templates pre-styled for you. Text size, image size, and other elements are designed to complement each other. All you need to do is customize the content.
  • Empty rows — adjust column counts and widths, then add content blocks from the Content tab.
  • Predefined rows — contains the mandatory locked footer. Though the footer is automatically added to any template, this is where you can locate it.

Settings tab

Use the Settings tab in the right panel to control email-wide design options. Here you can:

  • Adjust the content area width (default 500px)
  • Change the content area alignment to Left or Center
  • Change the default font
  • Adjust the background color, content area background color, and link color
Take a look at the available fonts:
  • Arial
  • Bitter
  • Courier New
  • Droid Serif
  • Georgia
  • Helvetica Neue
  • Lato
  • Lucida Sans
  • Merriweather

Saving and previewing your template

Saving your template

Throughout the design process, click the Save button to make sure you don't lose your progress. When you're done designing, click Save as template from the shortcut at the bottom of the right-panel icon bar. You can always edit your template by reopening the campaign.

Previewing your template

To preview your design before sending, click on the dropdown arrow next to Review & launch in the header, and select Preview email. You can view the email in Desktop mode or Mobile mode.
