Migrate your data from Work Management to monday dev

You have two options to migrate your data from Work Management to monday dev:

  • Option 1: you can move your current boards to monday dev as they currently are and add the dev features on top of them
  • Option 2: you can rebuild your boards on the monday dev entities and won't need to add the dev features since they come built in.

This article will walk you through both options step-by-step to ensure a smooth transition.

Option 1: Move your current boards and use them as is

When should you use this option?

You should use this option if:

  • your boards are well-built and you do not want to change them (low implementation effort)
  • you intend for your setup to remain the same once moving your boards (i.e. automations, integrations, etc.)

If you choose this option, consider that:

  • you will then need to manually add exclusive monday dev features to the desired boards. This includes Agile Insights, Sprint automations, the Engineering Performance Dashboard, and more.
Note: If your teammates are assigned on your Work Management boards, they will become viewers once your boards are moved to monday dev. After the move, you will need to give them full member access.

How to do it

  • Make sure you've installed monday dev.
  • To start migrating your data, move all of your dev boards to one folder. To do so, click on the three-dot menu located on the right of your board's name. Then, select "Move to" and choose "Move to folder":

  • Once all of your boards are moved to one folder, move the folder into monday dev. Open the three-dot menu to the right of the folder, select "Move to" and then "monday dev":

Note: Moving your boards will move everything associated with them. This includes automations, views, etc.

Option 2: Rebuild your boards on monday dev

When should you use this option?

You should use this option if:

  • you want to use the default monday dev structure and features

If you choose this option, consider that:

  • you will need to manually rebuild your boards within the default boards in monday dev (adding your own columns, views, etc). Once you have rebuilt your boards, you will need to move all your items from Work Management to dev.

How to do it

  • Make sure you've installed monday dev.
  • Next, update your dev boards. You can update the structure of each board based on your own desired workflow structure. For example you can add columns, add or change groups, etc.

  • Once done, go back to Work Management and duplicate all of your dev boards. Learn how to duplicate a board in the "How to duplicate a board" article. Make sure you are duplicating your board's structure, items, and updates.
Tip: We strongly recommend that you keep your original data untouched. We do not recommend moving items from your existing boards.

Customize the Epic Overview

You can customize your Epic Overview by adding different widgets. To customize the Epic Overview, open any item on your board, and then open “+ Add widget” to customize your view:

You can add any widget to your board! Check out the "The Item Card" article to view the list of all available widgets.

Boost your boards with monday dev views and automations

Kanban view

With the Kanban view, you can see tasks in the active sprint categorized by status. Kanban cards make it easy to see an overview of all work at every stage. Check out the "Kanban Cards" section of the "Get started with monday dev" article to learn more.

Sprint automations

With Sprint automations, you'll be able to transform sprint data into valuable insights. You can find the first sprint automation template by clicking on the three dot menu at the top right of the board.

Add label change conditions

Who can use this feature:
monday dev Enterprise plan only

With this feature, you are able to create required fields when changing a status label. For example, a status cannot change to “Closed” until the “Design” field has been filled out.

CircleCI Integration

The CircleCI integration will allow you to automate processes that involve two kinds of events: workflow completed and job completed. Each event has a template, so when either a workflow or job end with a specific status (for example, "success" or "failure"), a new item can be created and populated with the workflow or job data.
