AI Automation blocks
There are many AI action blocks that you can use to improve your workflow. Here are the different action block categories you can choose from in the Automation center:
- Categorize with AI
- Summarize text with AI
- Improve text with AI
- Detect a sentiment with AI
- Translate text with AI
- Writing assistant
- Extract information with AI
- Custom block
Categorize with AI
Add the Categorize by AI when building a custom automation or by searching "categorize" in the Automation center and choosing from the available templates:
When a categorize automation is triggered, the AI capabilities will read the text in the designated field on your board and determine which label (if you're using a status column) or labels (if you're using a dropdown column) are the best match.

Summarize text with AI
You can add the Summarize text with AI blocks when building a custom automation or by searching "summarize" in the Automation center and choosing from the available templates:
When a summarize text automation is triggered, the AI capabilities will read the text in a designated field on your board and summarize the text in a separate designated field.
Improve text with AI
You can add the Improve text with AI blocks when building a custom automation or by searching "improve" in the Automation center and choosing from the available templates:
When an improve text automation is triggered, AI capabilities will read the text in a designated field on your board and refine the text in a separate designated field.
Using the automation, AI's "improve text blocks" will lend your text a more professional and presentable tone. It will also correct grammar and typos!
Detect sentiment with AI
You can add the Detect sentiment with AI block when building a custom automation or by searching "sentiment" in the Automation center and choosing from the available templates:
With this AI block, the sentiment of the text on your board will be automatically detected.
Translate text with AI
You can add the Translate text with AI block when building a custom automation or by searching "translate" in the Automation center and choosing from the available templates:
When a translate text automation is triggered, the AI capabilities will read the text in a designated field on your board and translate the text to the specified language you've chosen.
Writing assistant
You can add the Write with AI block when building a custom automation or by searching "write with AI" in the Automation center and choosing from the available templates:
Extract Information with AI
Extract Info with AI automatically extracts and organizes key information from files like invoices, resumes, or contracts. Information can also be extracted from text columns, monday docs, and images.
You can add the Extract information with AI block when building a custom automation or by searching "extract" in the Automation center and choosing from the available templates:
Custom block
With the custom block, you can get customized results for anything else you might need.
Tell AI what you need, create the automation, and watch it work! You can revise and test your instructions as many times as needed to make sure you're getting the results you want.
When you click on the use AI field, a text box will open. This is where you write out your instructions. This is the most important part! You can choose columns for AI capabilities to retrieve information from by using the buttons at the bottom of the text box:
Here, we've indicated that we want the AI capabilities to read the Status column and fill in the Text column. We've given AI the following instructions:
"Send message to {pulse.person} that {pulse.status} has changed."
The more specific and clear your instructions, the more accurate AI's output will be.
Using run history to troubleshoot
If you want to understand why a column may be showing No result, then you can check the Run history.
Click on the Automate button on the top right of your screen and then click on Run history at the top right of the screen. There you will see a summary of the AI actions taken on the column:
In this example, Extract Info was used to extract an email address from a different column. You can see the Run history explains that the No result is due to the fact that "this item doesn't seem to contain any Email address."
