Welcome to monday.com's Workspaces 2.0. A goal-oriented space where each workspace is built around a specific goal or initiative, with a dedicated workspace agent that understands that goal and supports the team working toward it. The workspace agent is shared with every member of the workspace from the moment it is created, so your whole team can collaborate with it from day one!
Use this article to understand how to set up your workspace and get the most out of your workspace agent.
What's new in the workspace?
Workspaces 2.0 takes a meaningful shift from how workspaces worked before. Previously, a workspace was a container for all the work a team does; a home for every board, doc, and project across a department. The goal-oriented Workspace 2.0 works differently. Each workspace is focused on one specific goal or initiative, and the agent assigned to it is entirely dedicated to that work. It knows what the team is trying to achieve, who is responsible for what, and what progress has been made, because all that context lives in the workspace it belongs to.
What is the workspace agent?
The workspace agent is an AI agent built into every new monday.com workspace. Think of the workspace agent less like a generic AI assistant and more like a knowledgeable team member who is fully embedded in the work. It does not need to be briefed from scratch each time. It understands your workspace's goal, the context you provide, and the work happening across your boards. It uses that context to provide every workspace member with relevant, accurate support.
The workspace agent can help your team define and refine the workspace goal, build boards and docs to organize the work, produce outputs such as reports and summaries, and keep work moving by answering questions and surfacing what matters. The more context you provide through knowledge files, goals, and connected boards, the more effectively it supports your team.
Setting up your workspace
When you create a new workspace, an initial setup checklist appears in a right-hand panel to guide you through four steps. Completing these steps gives your workspace agent the context it needs to support your team effectively.
The workspace name is set when the workspace is created. Your workspace agent appears in the left pane and introduces itself, ready to get started.
To complete the set-up process, follow these steps:
1Click Set goal with agent in the setup checklist, or type your goal directly in the agent chat.
2Click Upload knowledge file to add files that give the agent context on the work being done.
3Click Invite team member to add teammates to the workspace.
You can also upload more files at any time from the Knowledge files tab in the left pane.
Managing your workspace
Select Manage workspace from the left pane to access your workspace's content, collaborators, and permission settings.
Recents
The Recents tab shows the most recently accessed content in your workspace, so your team can quickly pick up where they left off.
Content
The Content tab shows all boards and assets in your workspace. From here, you can add a new board or start from a template to begin organizing your work.
Collaborators
The Collaborators tab lists all members of the workspace, both human team members and agents. This gives you a full picture of who and what is working inside the workspace.
Permissions
The Permissions tab is available to workspace owners and controls what collaborators can do within the workspace based on their role. There are three default workspace roles:
- Workspace owner: full access to all workspace settings, content, and permissions
- Workspace member: access to workspace content and the workspace agent, with configurable permissions
- Workspace non-member: no access to the workspace agent, other workspace permissions configurable by the workspace owner
Permissions are organized by category, including AI Features, Agents, and Workspace actions such as creating automations, uploading files, and reordering content. Workspace owners can adjust these permissions per role at any time.
Adding assets to your workspace
Use the + icon at the top of the left pane to add new assets to your workspace. You can add a board, doc, dashboard, workflow, Vibe app, folder, or more. All assets added this way appear in the left pane as usual.
You can also add agents directly from the left pane. Under My agents, select Add your agents to create a new agent or connect an existing one to this workspace.
Agent outputs
Any content created by the workspace agent, such as boards, docs, or other assets, is automatically saved to the Agent outputs folder in the left pane. This keeps everything your agent produces in one accessible place for the whole team. You will also see which assets the agent has created within the content tab, under Creator.
Another way to access agent outputs is directly from the workspace agent chat. Select the Outputs icon in the top right corner of the chat window to open the outputs panel without leaving the conversation.
Knowledge files
The Knowledge files tab in the left pane shows all uploaded files that provide context to the workspace agent. You can view, manage, and add new files here at any time, not just during initial setup.
Supported file types are PDF, MD, and TXT. Once uploaded, files become part of the agent's shared knowledge and inform every response it gives to workspace members.
Collaborating in your workspace
Every workspace includes a built-in group chat where all workspace members, both humans and the workspace agent, can communicate together in one place. This is where your team shares daily and weekly task updates, keeps each other informed on progress, asks questions, and coordinates work without switching to an external tool.
The group chat is automatically available to all workspace members from the moment the workspace is created. There is no setup required and no channel to configure. Everyone who is a member of the workspace is already in it.
To access the team chat, hover over the agent icons in the bottom-left corner and select the workspace name. Once in the chat, you can message anyone directly by typing @ followed by the member or agent's name. The agent responds in the thread, so its input is visible to the whole team, not just the person who asked.
This means one team member can ask the agent for a status update on the pipeline, a candidate summary, or a draft of the next steps, and everyone in the workspace sees the response in context.
Best practices
- Set a clear workspace goal early. The agent uses this to understand the workspace's purpose and tailor its support accordingly.
- Upload relevant knowledge files at setup and update them as the project evolves. The more context the agent has, the more useful it becomes.
- Invite your full team before starting work so everyone has access to the workspace agent from the beginning.
- Use workspace permissions to define what each role can do, keeping your workspace organized and governed from the start.
