Importing Claude managed agents into monday.com lets you connect an agent you have built and host externally on the Claude platform directly into your monday.com workflows. Once connected, the agent can interact with your boards and data through monday.com's MCP tools, while continuing to run and be managed on the Claude platform.
This guide covers how to create a managed agent on the Claude platform, import it into monday.com, and understand the permissions and billing considerations that apply.
Before you begin
Importing a Claude managed agent requires access to both the Claude platform and monday.com. Before getting started, make sure you have the following:
- An account on the Claude platform (intended for developer use)
- A valid Claude API key
- Admin permissions on your monday.com account
- The required monday.com permissions enabled (see Permissions below)
Step 1: Create a managed agent on the Claude platform
Start by creating your agent on the Claude platform. This is where the agent lives and runs, and where you manage its sessions and configuration.
1Log in to the Claude platform and navigate to the agent creation area.
2Click + New agent to create a blank agent. At this stage, the agent has no specific instructions or capabilities — you will configure these after connecting it to monday.com.
3Give the agent a name to identify it. You can rename it again inside monday.com after importing.
Step 2: Import the agent into monday.com
Once your agent is created on the Claude platform, import it into monday.com to connect it to your boards and workflows.
1In monday.com, click on AI Agents in the left navigation pane.
2Select Bring your own agent and then choose Claude as the provider.
3Enter your Claude API key in the field provided. Once entered, your available agents from the Claude platform will appear.
4Select the agent you want to import. Optionally, give it a different display name inside monday.com. The Vault and Environment fields are optional — leave them empty if you have not already created these, and monday.com will create new ones automatically.
5Click Connect. You will then be taken through a board onboarding flow, similar to the standard monday AI agent builder setup, where you can configure triggers for the agent.
Permissions
Two sets of permissions are required for external agents to work with monday.com. These are configured at the account level by an admin.
| Permission | Purpose | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Use external agents | Required to create and use external agents inside monday.com | Admin > Permissions > External agents (TBD — exact location to be confirmed) |
| Allow external AI agents to access your monday.com account data | Required to allow the external agent to communicate with monday.com via MCP | Admin > Permissions (TBD — exact sub-permission name and location to be confirmed) |
Usage and billing
Running a Claude managed agent inside monday.com does not consume monday.com AI credits. Instead, each agent run consumes credits on your Claude platform account. This is separate from monday.com's billing.
Make sure your Claude platform account has sufficient credits before activating the agent for ongoing or high-volume use.
How the agent works inside monday.com
Once imported, the Claude managed agent appears inside monday.com and behaves similarly to agents built with the monday AI agent builder. You can assign it to items, trigger it via mentions, and interact with it through Sidekick.
However, the agent itself lives and runs on the Claude platform. All sessions, thought processes, and activity logs are visible there, not in the monday.com Activity tab. When the agent responds to a query, it uses monday.com MCP tools to pull context from your boards and return relevant information.
