After sending out an email campaign on monday campaigns, you will be able to view the campaign's analytics in order to understand how your campaign performed and based on those insights decide what you need to do next. However, what if you're not sure what every email campaign event means?
Here's our guide to help you understand exactly what each event means so you can make the most of your email campaigns.
Email Campaign Events
Sent
This event occurs when your email has been successfully processed and handed off to the recipient's email provider. It indicates that the email has left monday.com's systems and is on its way to the recipient. You'll see this event for most emails, but not for dropped emails.
Delivered
This confirms that the recipient's email provider has successfully accepted your email. A delivered event means your email has reached the recipient's inbox.
Bounced
This happens when the recipient's email provider rejects your email. Common reasons include invalid email addresses, full mailboxes, or provider issues.
Important note: You may see a "sent" event before a bounce occurs, as the email is initially accepted but then rejected during processing.
Dropped
This means monday.com prevented your email from being sent to protect your sender reputation. Emails are typically dropped when they're addressed to recipients who have previously bounced, unsubscribed, or reported spam.
Key difference: Dropped emails will never show a "sent" event since they never leave our system.
Opened
This tracks when a recipient opens your email. Open tracking requires the recipient to load images, and some email clients block images by default, so open rates may be lower than actual opens.
Clicked
This occurs when a recipient clicks on a tracked link within your email. Click tracking helps you understand which content resonates with your audience.
Complaint
This happens when a recipient marks your email as spam or junk. These reports are serious and can impact your sender reputation, so it's important to monitor them closely.
Unsubscribed
This tracks when someone opts out of your email communications by clicking an unsubscribe link. Respecting unsubscribe requests is crucial for maintaining good sender practices.
Event Timing
Events typically occur in this order:
- Sent (except for dropped emails)
- Delivered or Bounced
- Opened and Clicked (if recipient engages)
- Recipient Complaint or Recipient Unsubscribed (if recipient takes action)
