Configure your Dashboard

Dashboards serve as a powerful visual hub that brings together data from multiple boards into a single, customizable view. By configuring dashboards, teams can track progress, monitor key metrics, and gain real-time insights across multiple projects—all in one place.

Let's get sorting! 📊

Connect your boards

The dashboard works by pulling data from your various connected boards to display in widgets. When creating a Dashboard, a window will appear asking you to connect the relevant boards. You can either use the search bar at the top of the window to search for boards or scroll through the list of recently used boards. Select your boards by clicking on the checkbox to the left of the board's name.

Once you have created your dashboard, you can always see which boards are connected, add new boards, and remove connected boards by utilizing the button in the top left corner of your Dashboard. Click to open the window to view your boards and connect other boards. Select "Done" to save your selections.

The checkbox below your list of boards allows you to choose whether to add newly connected boards to existing widgets. This means that if you already have widgets configured to the data in your Dashboard and then add additional boards, you can decide whether or not the data from those new boards is included.

By default, this box is checked, but simply tick the box to change this setting!

Note: The number of boards you can choose depends on the plan you have purchased. For more information, see this article

Add widgets

Your dashboard is made up of different widgets. You can use each widget to display specific information from any board. To add a new widget, simply click on the add widget icon and select the type of widget you would like to display.

Widgets can be configured according to the type selected and the data you want to display. To access the widget settings, click on the three dots in the top right-hand corner of the widget and select "Settings."

Column matching

If you have multiple boards with the same column type and name that you would like to connect to a single widget to track various projects, you can easily match columns across boards automatically. This way, you can configure the widget settings and filters with many boards without having to select each column manually.

First, ensure that all relevant boards for your projects are connected to your dashboard, as shown in the above section

To configure the column matching, click on the three dots in the top right-hand corner of the widget, select "Settings", and then either "X Axis" or "Y Axis" from the settings window that appears.

From here, you can choose either "All at once" or "One by one". If you select "All at once", the widget will automatically pull data from identical columns across your boards, whereas the "One by one" option requires you to manually select which columns you want to pull data from.

After selecting the "All at once" option, a list of matching columns across your boards will appear. Use the drop-down arrow next to the column name to choose which column you would like to pull data from.

Note: The number next to the column name indicates how many of your connected boards share that column. If a connected board is missing the same column and you would like to include it in the widget, you will need to manually specify which column you want to pull data from in that board using the "One by one" setting.

You can also configure column matching across your entire dashboard in the dashboard settings by selecting the cog-wheel icon in the top-right corner. From here, click on Customize next to any of the columns listed, and select which column from each of your connected boards you would like to match for that column type.

Turn on and off live data

You have the option to enable or disable live data streaming on your dashboard. When live data is on, you can edit your data in real time, and all data will be refreshed immediately right before your eyes. When live data is off, the dashboard becomes a read-only report of your boards and will refresh when you refresh your page or click on the "Refresh" button.

Note: The ability to turn on or off live data is only available for cross-board dashboards. It is not supported in our board views.

To turn live data on or off, click the 3 dot menu at the top right corner of your dashboard, click "Live data", and select on or off, as shown below.

When your live data is turned off, board data will not be retrieved automatically. So, while in this mode, you'll see a "Refresh" button at the top right corner of your dashboard. Beside the button, you'll see an indication of the last time your data was retrieved.

Use the dropdown arrow next to the "Refresh" button to choose time periods during which your dashboard will automatically refresh!

Tip: The "Refresh" option is only available on the new dashboard engine. To switch to the new engine, click on the three dots at the top right corner of your dashboard and select "Upgrade to new dashboard engine."

Edit your dashboard

You can edit your dashboard at any point by toggling to the "Edit" button located in the center of your screen, right above your widgets. Once you are done, toggle back to "View".

Note: Only Dashboard Owners can move, resize, or edit widgets. To prevent your team from changing the layout, invite them as Viewers or Subscribers rather than Owners.
