A workdoc is a flexible, multi-media whiteboard where you and your team can record all notes and ideas related to one central topic. By adding individual elements to your workdoc, all your loose thoughts and ideas can come together in one place. Let's learn about the different elements and everything that can be done with them!
Stylize your workdoc
There are multiple customization options when it comes to building your workdoc. These include customizing text, the layout, and the header of your workdoc.
- Stylize text
To add text you can simply click on the doc and begin typing. Once you have added text, you can customize it however you want! Just highlight any line or piece of text, and a floating toolbar will appear. From this toolbar, you can change the text type, format, color, alignment, and even add a layout, hyperlink, or notice box.
To choose the style of the text before you begin typing, click the "+" icon in a new line on the doc, use "/" for shortcut access, or use the menu at the top of the workdoc. All options will prompt you to choose the style of text you wish to add.
To access the workdoc style menu, click the "Style" icon in the top menu to open the options in a menu on the right-hand side of your doc. From here you can change the font style and size.
You can reset to the default settings by clicking "Reset" in the top right corner of the menu.
- workdoc layout
You can determine the layout of your workdoc in terms of text alignment, listing options, margin layout, and background color. To set text alignment or bullet points and checklists, use the setting options in top menu.
To change the margin settings and add a background color to your document, click on the "Style" button in the top menu, and choose the customizable options from the right-hand pane menu.
- workdoc Header
Your workdoc Header is the face of your workdoc and can be customized by adding the following features:
- Cover image
- Title
- Table of contents- for easy navigation of the doc
- Doc info- this is information that sits below the title and includes the doc creator, creation date, and last updated date and time.
To access these settings, click on the "Style" icon and toggle the settings on or off in the "Header" section of the right-hand pane menu.
You can choose to add a "Cover image" to your workdoc by selecting an image from the monday.com library, Unsplash library or uploading your own image from your computer.
Add tables and layouts
Take your workdocs a step further by adding tables and layouts. Type "/" or click on "+ Add" button within your doc and select "Layouts". Once in the "Layouts" section of the right-hand pane menu you can select some quick-add options or customize your own. You can even find some pre-made templates under the "Productivity" tab!
Create a custom layout or table in seconds by typing "/" followed by "table" or "layout" and using your cursor to highlight the cells that you want it to contain.
You can further customize your table by adding color to cells and changing the text color in that cell!
Insert a page break to ensure that your workdoc is divided in a way that suits your layout needs! Once a page break is added to your doc, when exported to PDF, the page break will ensure that certain information is contained to a specific page. Select "Page break" at the bottom of the "Layout" tab.
Embed widgets and apps
Add dimension and visual context to your workdoc by embedding widgets. Click "Add", "More options" and then choose from any of the widgets in the "Productivity" tab of the right pane menu.
You can interact with your widget just as you would on a dashboard and can rename it, filter it, and open up the settings menu to customize it exactly as you want! To learn how to master widgets, you can check out this article, or read any of the respective widget articles.
Embed external tools and apps from the "Embeds" tab! Choose from apps such as YouTube, Vimeo, Airtable, Twitter, and more!
Add media
Adding an image, video, or file is similar to adding text. You can do so using the "/" keyboard shortcut or by clicking the options in the "+ Add" menu in the upper left corner of the workdoc. Click on "More options", and select the "Media" tab. You can also drag and drop images from your desktop right into your workdoc, or copy and paste them from anywhere.
Click the image to launch a toolbar, allowing you to easily change the image, add or hide a fully customizable caption, adjust alignment, comment, and more.
To edit or annotate the element, hover over the image, video, or file, and click the expand icon to open it in full screen editing mode. From the toolbar, you can add Updates, download, print, delete, and more. You can even get more information on your file from the vertical menu on the right side of your screen:
Insert code blocks
Hey, developers! You can easily write code in workdocs with our code block feature! Add a block of code and your programming language will be instantly recognized. Type "/" or click on "+ Add" and select "< > Code". Insert your code and see the language appear within the gray code box.
Move elements
Each element on your workdoc is flexible and can be transformed into another form, moved up or down, duplicated, deleted, and more with the use of the drop down menu.
To access the menu, hover to the left of an element and click the arrow that appears. Next, you can select an action from the menu. Elements can be moved by selecting the "Move" option in the drop down menu or by dragging the six dot menu to the left of the element as seen below:
