Twilio Integration

Twilio is a cloud communications platform that allows you to programmatically send phone and text messages and perform other communication functions. Now, with our new integration, you are able to reach out and connect with your clients, employees, freelancers, and managers via phone calls and SMS.

Adding the Twilio integration

To add an Integration, go to the board you want to create an Integration for and click on the Integrate button in the upper right corner of your screen. Once in the Automation center, look for the Twilio integration banner or search for it in the search bar:Group 64 - 2024-11-06T153221.742.png

Once you've clicked on the Twilio banner, you'll see all of the available integration templates. Choose the one you want to use. You'll then have to connect your Twilio account. You can also create a new account if you don't have one already:Screenshot 2024-11-06 at 15.33.46 1.png

Note:   The integration will not work with the trial version of Twilio.
Also, you may not be able to send an outgoing SMS as part of an automation to a cell phone outside the USA. If you need to do this, please contact Twilio support for help with adjusting your geographical permissions setting.

Setting up a Twilio account

To sign up for a new Twilio account, you can sign up at Twilio.com or click on Create new account at the bottom of the Twilio connection page when setting up a template.

To connect your Twilio account you will need 3 things: Your Twilio account’s SID, your Twilio Authentication Token, and your assigned Twilio phone number.

Getting a Twilio phone number

To get a phone number, log into your Twilio account and navigate to the Develop tab on the left pane. There you will see the following screen with instructions for getting the phone number:Screenshot 2024-11-19 at 11.51.22 1.png

Click on Get phone number to generate the number you will use.

Getting account SID and Auth Token

To find your account SID, scroll to the bottom of the same page to see the Account info section and to find the Account SID and Auth Token:Group 64 - 2024-11-19T114942.480.png

Note: When using Twilio to send an SMS, the message will go to the phone number listed in the user's profile.

Using the integration

To understand how this integration works, let's dive into an easy example: When an item is created, send someone an SMS.

First, select the Twilio number you want to send the SMS from.

Next, fill in the relevant information for the integration template. When you will click on SMS you will see a pop-up box where you can enter the text of the SMS you want to send:

Finally, select who will receive the SMS. You can select other team members or you can use the numbers in the Phone Column.

Making a phone call with Twilio

The Twilio integration supports phone calls. Let's say you want to set up a call to someone after you have changed a Status Column to a specific label.

Similar to the steps in the previous section about adding Twilio to your workflow, let's add an integration template for a column change.

Select the Status Column that you want to use. Then select the label that will initiate the call:Screenshot 2024-11-19 at 12.01.44 1.png

You can select other team members or you can add a Phone Column:Screenshot 2024-11-19 at 12.03.29 1.png

When you click on say you will see a pop-up box where you can enter the text for the automated phone message. The message can include the item name, board name, and much more.

You can also select the voice, the language, and the accent for the automated message:Screenshot 2024-11-19 at 12.05.05 1.png

Now you can send voice messages from monday.com through Twilio.

Phone call pricing

When using the Twilio Integration to call someone, the call is made using Twilio's pay-as-you-go voice pricing "LOCAL CALL" rates. When calling numbers outside of the U.S., the pricing depends on the country the recipient's number is located in. You can choose the receiving country to see the designated rate under the "OUTBOUND" pricing section on the Twilio Voice Pricing page.
