Overview
The round-robin automation cycles through team members in order, giving each one an equal turn. The rotation resets every 30 days to ensure fair distribution. This automation is ideal for sales teams. Sales managers can use this automation to make sure each lead is assigned to a different sales rep
Benefits:
- Balanced workload: this automations ensures that all team members are receiving equal opportunities and equal work
- Efficiency: leads are automatically assigned, eliminating the need for manual distribution
- Transparency: team leads and managers can easily see how leads were distributed
How it works
There are three ways to use this automation, but it always follows the same structure. Understanding the overall logic of round-robin automations before setting them up is useful.
Here is the basic structure of a round robin automation or workflow:
Let's take a look at each element of this automation.
- When [trigger happens]: This is a placeholder for your chosen automation trigger. A trigger initiates the automation. It will be something like "when date arrives" or "when item is created."
- assign available people: Round robin automations rely on team members updating their working status on their monday profile. The automation will only assign tasks to available team members.
- from Team: To use round robin automations, the team members you want to assign must be in a team. To learn more about creating and managing teams, check out the "All about teams" article.
- to People Column: Choose a People column on your board to make assignments.
- in a round robin: The next available team member will be assigned.

Pre-built recipes
You can find round robin automations in the Automation Center. There are 10 pre-built recipes. Search "round robin" to pull them up:
Each recipe uses a different trigger. For example:
- When date arrives
- When an item is moved to this board
- When an item is created

In addition to these pre-built recipes, you can use round robin as the action in a custom automation:

Limitations
There are a few factors to consider when using round robin assignments in monday CRM.
- At the moment, you cannot assign entire teams with round robin. You can only assign individual team members.
- When making assignments, round robin does not factor in a team member's workload, only their availability according to their working status.
