How to add it to your workflow
Once you click on the Slack integration banner you will find the 6 recipes our integration offers:
- When date arrives, notify in channel
- When item is created, notify in channel
- When a status changes to something, notify in channel
- When a column changes, notify in channel
- When an update is posted in this item, send it to channel
- When any update is posted, send it to channel
Select the integration you wish to create!
Once you click on one of the recipes you will be asked to enter connect your monday.com account with your Slack account:
Then you will be asked to give permission to monday.com to connect to your Slack account Click Authorize:
Yay! You have successfully connected your account to Slack. Now you can start building recipes to communicate efficiently with your team!
So how does it work?
Once you've chosen one of the six recipes and authorized monday.com to integrate with Slack, you will get to the integration window. This is where you will be able to set up your automation. You can customize the message that will be sent to the Slack channel as seen below!
Notify specific people in Slack through the integration
With the Slack integration, you can choose to notify specific people, everyone or people within a specific channel. Here is how it works:
- Mention specific people
You can mention someone in Slack through the integration by using the Slack user ID of that person. To do so, go to your Slack account and search for the user's profile. Next, click on the three dots menu and select "copy member ID" as below:
Once done, go back to your integration recipe and use the following syntax: <@memberID> . Here for example, we want to notify Dan - our video editor - as soon as a script is completed.
Dan will then receive the following message on Slack:
- Mention a everyone in a channel
In the same way, you can also mention everyone in a specific channel. To do so, simply use <!here> in the notification text in your integration.
- Mention a specific channel
To mention a channel use <!channel> in the notification text in your integration.
- Use case 1: When an item is created, notify in channel:
This can be helpful to stay on top of new tasks being added to a group so you can be instantly notified of new tasks that are added to a board and make sure the entire team is aligned! First begin by choosing the message you want to appear in Slack. You can customize it and include the user name who created it, the board name, and the item name as well as your custom message about it!
Once done, choose any channel from your Slack account you want to be notified of this message!
- Use case 2: When a status changes to something, notify in channel
This is extremely helpful to stay up to date on the progress of the status of your projects and tasks. You can notify those who need to know when something is stuck or done without having to check-in or schedule meetings. Sit back and know that once it has been updated, your entire team will be notified!
This is the way the message will appear in Slack so you know it is coming from monday.com:
This really helps teams work efficiently and closely together on projects, especially with many task owners and dependent tasks.
Create items and updates directly from Slack
- Create a new item directly from Slack
With the new Slack shortcut feature, you can instantly create new items, such as tasks or projects, directly from Slack conversations. Leave important items in monday.com so nothing gets left behind.
To create a new item directly from a Slack conversation, click on the shortcut icon as below and select "create a new item"
Next, customize the item you'd like to create. You can even add an update that will display in the updates section of your item on monday.
Once done, you will get the following message:
- Create updates directly from Slack
With the new shortcut feature, you can also add updates to existing items (tasks or projects) directly from Slack to make sure nothing falls between cracks.
Click on the shortcut icon and select "create new update in an item" as below:
Next, add the update you'd like to post and select the board, the group and the item in your monday.com account
Once done, you will get the following message:
