Looking for a sleek new way to stay on top of all of your time-sensitive tasks? While the Timeline View is a great way to see all your tasks from one board in one place, you can only view your timelines one board at a time. With our Timeline Widget, you can now pull timelines from several boards and gather them all in a single view! This widget is a must-have to enhance your workflow! Keep reading to learn how you can use it on your dashboard!
How to add the widget
To add the Timeline Widget to your dashboard, just click '+ Add Widget' at the top left corner of your dashboard and select 'Timeline'.
Come procedere alla configurazione
In the right panel, you can set up your Timeline Widget with completely customizable settings! Let's go through each of the categories of settings together!
- Boards and Groups
First, under 'Boards', we can choose the boards we want to see in our widget, and under 'Choose groups', we can pick which groups we want to display data from.
For our small business, getting our new products up and running is the key component to our expansion. We want to create a timeline on our dashboard that will include all of our most important projects and events. We've chosen to include the following 3 boards in our Timeline Widget:
The first board shows all events and dates relating to the release week of all of our new products.
The second board shows the timelines of each stage of production and release for our new soaps.
The third board shows all scheduled meetings, organized by month.
For now, we want to compile all of the groups from our first two boards so that we don't exclude any products or events. Since our third board is grouped according to months, we can exclude all other months and only include this month in our view.
- Timeline or Date Columns
If you have more than one Timeline and/or Date Column, choose which ones you want to display in your Widget under 'Choose Timeline Columns'. We've selected all 3 of the connected columns because we want to include all dates across our 3 boards. You can choose whether or not you'd like to see your subitems appear as events in your timeline. Just check the box beside the Date or Timeline Column under "subitems" to view them in your widget!
Subitems will appear in your timeline as white rectangles outlined with the color of the parent item. When you hover over the subitem, a pop-up appears, indicating that it is a subitem and mentioning the name of the board it belongs to.
You will also see all of your milestones displayed in your timeline in the shape of a diamond! Check out this article to learn how to add milestones to your Timeline Column!
- Raggruppa per
Next, choose how you wish to group your dates and timelines. You can group them by any column on your boards! In the example below, we've grouped our dates by our People Column, showing us all of the events and tasks in the upcoming month, organized by who's responsible for their completion. Items that are not assigned to anyone using a People Column will be listed at the top, as seen below in yellow:
Here, we've chosen to group all of our items by Status Column. This way, we can see all of our upcoming items according to what their status is! In the right panel, we can choose which Status Column we want to display from boards with more than one Status Column! We can also choose not to display a Status Column from a certain board.
We can also select how we'd like to display the subitems on our boards! Below, we've chosen to group our subitems "by Parent" item. This displays our board's subitems neatly below their parent item in the timeline, appearing outlined with the color of the parent item so that they can be easily identified! If we hover over a subitem, a little info box will pop up showing us the name of its parent item.
- Colora per
Your timeline automatically color codes your items according to which group they come from. For example, when you see green events, you know they are from your green-colored group, and when you see purple events, you know that they are from your purple-colored group. But you can use the drop-down menu to choose how you want them to be colored! You can choose to color by boards, groups (using the colors of your groups), Status Column (using the colors of your labels), or People! If you have more than one Status Column on your boards, you can choose which one to use!
- Other settings options
Check out a few more cool things you can do with the Timeline Widget:
1. Gantt Mode
You can choose to view your items in 'Gantt Mode', which layers the items in a waterfall formation. Gantt Mode is a really great setting because it spreads out items that are close in date so that you can easily read the names of each item and which board they belong to.
To the left above your calendar, you can choose a timeframe! Here, we choose whether we want to see all of the dates over a day, week, month, or even year! We chose "Months" in the example below, and we can click the screen and drag to scroll right and left in our calendar to display different months!
3. Export to Excel
You can export your timeline to Excel by clicking the little chart icon in the center above your timeline:
Choose how to display the widget
After we finish outlining our settings, we can choose how we'd like this widget to be displayed in our dashboard! We can display it as:
- "Timeline" showing all of the items from our boards in a calendar
- "Table" displaying the groups of items across all of our boards exactly how they would appear in each of their boards. This is a really great option if you want to track dates and timelines across several boards and need to glance at all of them together
- "Split Mode" (as seen in the image below) combining both views together so you can see your items in a calendar view along with the original data from your boards!
Filtra la tua timeline
If we don't want to see all of the dates and timelines on our boards, we can click the tornado icon to filter out our information! 🌪
We're interested in seeing which projects need an extra push, so we've filtered by "Not Started" in our Status Column! If we want to return to this view the next time we open our Dashboard, we can click 'Save to this widget', and our Widget will remain will this filter until we click 'Clear' in our filter menu.
