When we head out into the field, it's really important that we have all of the information we need at the tips of our fingers. That's why we love to use monday.com on our mobile devices when we're out at our construction sites. But sometimes we can get a little overwhelmed with all of our data and it can become difficult to find what we're looking for on the go. If this sounds like you then keep reading, because by the end of this guide, you'll be a filtering master!
Why should I use filters?
Filters allow you to narrow down the data on your board according to the specific conditions and parameters you set! Any time you're on-the-go and need to check something in your board, all you have to do is set a quick filter on your mobile app to find exactly what you're looking for! No need to spend time scrolling through your board looking for what you need - we'll find it for you!
There are three different ways to filter the information on your board. Let's review them together!
A really simple way to search for something specific is to use the search bar! Click the magnifying glass icon at the top right corner of your screen to open up the search bar!
Type in any keyword to see all of the items in your board related to the keyword! For example, we are on the phone with our accounting department, and have to quickly reference all of the tasks we have in our project's high level board that have to do with budgeting. We quickly opened up the monday.com app on our mobile device and typed "budget" into the search bar so that we could give them an immediate response while still on our phone call!
Quick filters are the best way to filter by the groups or columns on your board. To open quick filters, click the filter icon at the top of your screen:
Now, we can select any of the groups or columns on our board!

If you have a big project board filled with tons of detailed project information, it can be difficult to find what you're looking for while out in the field! Advanced filters let you narrow-down the data on your board using specific conditions and combinations on your iOS mobile app.
To add an advanced filter, click the filter icon and then "Add/Edit filter".
First, we'll select the column or group that we want to base the condition on. Don't forget to click "Save" after every selection! Here, we want to take a look at all of the items in our board where we've spent a certain amount of our budget, so we'll select the "Budget Spent" Numbers Column!
Next, we can select the condition! This can be anything from "is", "is not" or "is any of" to numerical conditions when involving the Numbers Column like we have here! We're going to choose ">=" so that we can see all of the items where we've spent equal to or above a certain value.
In the last field, we can type in any numerical value we want for the most accurate results!
Once we've set this advanced filter, we can click "Save" to apply it to our board, or we can add more filters! All of the filters we add will work together to give us only the items that fit within all of our criteria!
How can I filter in the field?
We've been trying for weeks to get a site meeting with our windows subcontractor at one of our projects, and we've finally found a few hours to meet at the project to discuss window installation! We want to make sure that we don't miss any window units, so rather than scrolling through our board hoping we catch each item, we want to filter our board to make sure that we see all of the window units!
We'll start by adding an advanced filter, and choosing our "Contractor" Dropdown Column from the list of columns on our board. Next, we'll choose "is" as our condition and "Windows" out of our list of subcontractors:
After we hit "Save", we'll have an advanced filter that will show us only items where the "Windows" subcontractor is tagged! We can take this one step further and use the Quick Filter "By Person" to narrow down the items to only show projects that I am responsible for!
Finally, we can click "Save view" if we want, to return to these filter results whenever we need them again! For example, in one month, I'll be returning to the site to check out our window subcontractor's installation! If I have this view saved as a board view, I can quickly come back to it next month so that I will have an easily accessible checklist to review all of the units that were supposed to have been installed!
