When signing up for the first time to a monday.com account, you will automatically be on our free plan. This plan offers you all the very basic features of the platform. It is great if you are using monday.com to organise your projects in a simple way, and to communicate and collaborate internally.
This article will walk you through about all you need to know regarding the free plan.
Which features are included in my plan?
The free plan includes the following features:
- Main boards with limitation
The main boards are accessible and visible by all your team members. You can create as many main boards as you want however, the total amount of items you can create in your account is limited. The next part of this article will discuss the limitations.
- Collaboration with limitation
The free plan is perfect for small teams, with a basic workflow. You can collaborate with up to 4 users on the free plan.
- Limited Column Center
Most of the essential columns of the column center are available on the free plan. To learn more about our column choices, check out this article.
- Limited Columns
Each board can have up to 5 columns. Any 5 columns of your choosing. So for example, you can have 2 status columns, 1 people column, 1 date column, and 1 timeline. Alternatively, you can have a second board with 5 status columns.
- Simple search function
You can use the board filter located on each of your board to filter the tasks you are assigned to or just any specific information within your board. You can learn more about it just here. If you would like to filter anything across your monday.com account, you may need the search everything available from our standard plan below. 👇
You can communicate with your team members in context using the @mention. You can also create teams and manage all your files through the updates section of each item.
- Files View
The Files View allows you to see all the files uploaded within your board in one place. You can view them as a list or as thumbnails. From there, you can download the files, preview them or open them in the update section they are connected to. To learn more about it, check out this article.
- Forms View
Convert your boards into forms in just one click, send them to your contacts and watch the information roll in as new items. Click on the Add View tab to add this feature to your board! Check out this article to learn more about it!
- KanBan View
You can visualise the content of your board using the popular project management methodology known as Kanban! :) To see how to use this feature, read this article here.
- 1 board/dashboard
Dashboards are a great way to display what's important in just one place. With 15 available widgets users can now understand project progress, track budget, estimate teammates workload and much more! In the Free plan, you can create as many dashboards and widgets you’d like. But, each dashboard can contain information from 1 board.
- Unlimited viewers
You can invite as many as viewers as you want in your account. This will not count towards your billing plan. To learn more about viewers, click here.
With the free plan, the amount of items you can create is limited. You can have as many boards as you want in the account as long as the total amount of items doesn't go over your item limit. To earn more items, you can invite your friends to try out the platform. Once they confirm, you will receive an additional 100 items.
- How to manage my account usage?
To manage your account usage, click on your avatar located on the bottom left of your account and select "your free plan". You will then be able to see how many items have been created on your account.
Alternatively, you can also manage your account usage from the admin section of your account by clicking on admin and then free plan as below:
- Do archived or deleted items count in the usage stats?
The archived items do count as active items in your account usage since they can still be accessible at any time and restored.
Once an item is deleted, it will not count towards towards the account usage.
How do I earn items?
You can get 100 items for every person you refer to monday.com. To do so, click on your avatar located at the bottom left of your screen and select admin. Then go to Free plan and click on "let's do it" as below:
Next, you will see the option to share a link or send an invitation by e-mail.
You can also access this menu by clicking on your avatar and then "Earn items".
Once the person you invite signs up and verifies his/her email, you will receive the free items. You can refer up to 8 accounts and get up to 800 free items for a total of 1000 items on the full account.
Unlocking my Pro free trial
If you'd like to try out some of our advanced features, you can unlock your free trial. You can do that by clicking on the feature itself and then selecting "start pro trial" as below:
Alternatively, you can activate your free trial on the admin section of your account. Click on your avatar, then admin and then free plan. You will then see the option to "start pro trial" as below:

Can I upgrade to a paying plan?
You can upgrade to a paid plan at any point! Click on your profile picture (avatar) and select admin. Then select on Free plan and click on upgrade account as below:
