Twilio is a cloud communications platform that allows you to programmatically send phone & text messages and perform other communication functions. Now, with our new integration, you are able to reach out and connect with your clients, employees, freelancers, and managers via phone calls & SMS!

Add Twilio to your workflow

Step 1

To add an Integration, go to the board you want to create an Integration for and click on the "Integrate" button in the upper right corner of your screen:

In the Integration Center, you will see all of the apps we integrate with. Select "Twilio":

Then you will need to choose ״Create new account״ if you do not already have a Twilio account:

Note:   The integration will not work with the trial version of Twilio.
Also, you may not be able to send an outgoing SMS as part of an automation to a cell phone outside the USA. If you need to do this, please contact Twilio support for help with adjusting your geographical permissions setting.

How to sign up for Twilio

To sign up for a new Twilio account, you can sign up at Twilio.com or click on "Create new account" at the bottom of the Twilio connection page when setting up a recipe.

Set up your Twilio account

To connect your Twilio account you will need 3 things: Your Twilio account’s SID, your Twilio Authentication Token, and your assigned Twilio phone number

Step 1

Once you are logged in you can find your SID and Auth Token by going to your Twilio dashboard and clicking on "See All" at the bottom.

Get your Twilio phone number

For these recipes to work, you will need to have purchased a number from Twilio capable of sending SMS messages.

You can do this by clicking on the country you want and then "Get a Number" button in the bottom left of your Project Dashboard and purchase the best number for you.

Note: When using Twilio to send an SMS, the message will go to the phone number listed in the user's profile.

How does it work?

To understand how this integration works, let's dive into an easy example: "When an item is created, send someone an SMS."

Step 1: Choose your account

First, select the Twilio number you want to send the SMS from.

Step 2: Choose your SMS text

Next, fill in the relevant information for the integration recipe. When you will click on “SMS” you will see a pop-up box where you can enter the text of the SMS. Click on the blue icons to add information from supported fields and columns to your text message.

Step 3: Choose the recipient

Finally, select who will receive the SMS. You can select other team members or you can use the numbers in the Phone Column.

What about phone calls?

The Twilio integration supports phone calls. Let's say you want to set up a call to someone after you have changed a Status Column to a specific label.

Step 1: Choose your recipe

Similar to the steps in the previous section about adding Twilio to your workflow, let's add an integration recipe for a column change.

Step 2: Set up your recipe

Select the Status Column that you want to use. Then select the label that will initiate the call.

Step 3: Select who you want to call

You can select other team members or you can add a Phone Column.

Step 4: Choose your phone message

When you click on “say” you will see a pop-up box. Enter the text for the automated phone message. The message can include the item name, board name, and much more. Just click on the blue icon for the supported field or column and the information in that field or column will pull into the message when for the item where the integration was triggered. You can also select the voice, the language, and the accent for the automated message.

And voila! Now you can send voice messages from monday.com through Twilio.

Phone call pricing

When using the Twilio Integration to call someone, the call is made using Twilio's pay-as-you-go voice pricing "LOCAL CALL" rates. When calling numbers outside of the U.S., the pricing depends on the country the recipient's number is located in. You can choose the receiving country to see the designated rate under the "OUTBOUND" pricing section on the Twilio Voice Pricing page.
