When planning or implementing projects, a timeline serves as your compass to visualize the project and its timeframe. With the WorkCanvas Timeline template there are multiple ways to display your timeline, as well as integrate it with your monday.com boards.
Let us guide you 🧭
Basic Timeline template
The basic Timeline template enables you to start from scratch and manually build your timeline on your canvas with various shapes, sticky notes, and colors. To add the basic template to your canvas, find the Timeline template within the template centre, and select the "Start from scratch" option.
Once inserted on your canvas, you can add new shapes and sticky notes from the toolbar on the left-hand side of your canvas, drag and drop elements, add text, and change the elements' colors.
Non-synced Timeline template
Wanting a one-time import of data for your timeline from a monday.com board? The non-synced Timeline template enables you to create a timeline using items from your monday.com, without establishing a two-way sync.
To add the non-synced template, find the Timeline template within the template centre, and select the "Import from monday board" option. From the window that appears, select a monday.com board from the dropdown menu, and choose which Date Column you would like to use for the timeline.
The one-time import inserts the data on a timeline based on the Date Column, with the Item name appearing as text in a sticky note.
This timeline is dynamic, and therefore sticky notes can be moved across the timeline and edited easily. To add a sticky note to this timeline, drag a drop a new sticky note to the selected location in the timeline.
Synced Timeline template
A synced Timeline template has a dynamic two-way connection to a selected monday.com board. Any changes made on either your monday board or your canvas, would reflect on both platforms.
Locate the template in the template centre and select the "Import from monday board" option. From the window that appears, select a monday.com board from the dropdown menu, choose which Date Column you would like to use for the timeline, and select the box next to "Live sync".
The synced Timeline is created from items on your monday.com board, and is represented over a vertical timeline. The dynamic two-way sync ensures that your timeline is always up to date on both your canvas and monday board, as changes made to an item will automatically update in both places.
By clicking on the dropdown arrow on the item card on your canvas, and selecting the "pen" icon, you can choose which details to display on the item card based on the columns from your monday board.
